Congratulations to our Duke's players from Downingtown East on their 2007 PA State Championship, Dylan Hoff, Justin Blye, Owen Blye, Alex Gannett, Justin Hummel, Reed Phillips, Andrew Zelinski, Sean Mulqueen, Mason Poli and Jeff Zelinski. Downingtown East head coach Tom Slate was also one of the Duke's first players. Tom Slate becomes the first person in Pennsylvania history to win a state championship as a head coach and player (Springfield 1992 and MVP). Downingtown East defeated Mount Lebanon 5-3.

Congratulations to Duke's Kyle Wharton (3 goals) and Pete Borror (1 goal) for their 2005 PA State Championship victory with the Haverford School. The Duke's were also represented on the Hempfield squad by Kyle Piper and Parker Dickerson (1 goal). Hempfield defeated Upper Saint Clair, 9-3, to reach the state finals, while Haverford School defeated LaSalle 15-9 to advance. Haverford defeated Hempfield 19-9 in the final.

Congratulations to Duke's team mates Matt Moyer and Nick Jacobs for helping Tower Hill capture the 2005 Delaware State Title. Nick had 2 Goals in the Championship while Matt had a Game breaking take away-strip and Carry for an assist goal. (complete story).

Before Matt Moyer takes his game to Cornell, he will complete his senior year at Tower Hill. Matt was featured in a Delaware Online lacrosse article.

Freshman Goalie, George Carafides, was named "Rookie of the Week in Goal for Yale". Saturday, March 26th, 2005, will mark the first Division I game featuring two Duke's alumni in goal. Matt McGonagle will be in goal for Cornell, and when they battle Yale.

Congratulations to the Slate family on the birth of their son Lucas James - 12:02PM on December 22, 2004.

Pat Lombard, Greg Casey, Mike Haas, Steve Kapp, Kelly Lombard & Tim Vogelbacker led LaSalle College High School [Team] to a victory in the 2004 Pennsylvania State Lacrosse Championship. LaSalle defeated the Western Champion, Shady Side Academy, 13-5.

Duke's Alum, Bob Schneider capped off his senior year at Malvern Prep  [Team] by earning the Philadelphia Inquirer's selection as "Southeastern Boys Lacrosse High School Player of the Year" for 2004. Bob is headed to Princeton.

III: Jeff Bigas @ Salisbury was a 1st Team All American on Defense and Chase Stewart @ Gettysburg was a 3rd Teamer on Attack.

In High School, Andrew Mackrides @ Malvern Prep was a repeat All American while Steve Varga @ Strath Haven, Matt Rankin @ West Chester East, Bob Schneider @ Malvern Prep and Tim Atkins @ Malvern Prep joined him in their Senior Year.

Dixon Hargrove @ Strath Haven was one of two Pennsylvania players honored as Academic High School All American.

Salisbury won their second straight national championship defeating Nazareth 13-9. Duke's alumni Jeff Bigas ('01) was a major contributor on defense and team captain. Jeff was joined by fellow Duke's alum Mike Liquori ('02), Brendan Dawson ('00), Matt Hittinger ('03), Chris Sweirzek ('01) and Erik Bishop ('03). The 2005 Sea Gulls will have an even larger Duke's presence as Jeff is joined by Bill Derrek ('02), Mike Lennon ('04), Sean Logue ('04) and Ryan Phillips ('04).

Tom Slate named the first Lacrosse Head Coach at Downingtown East High School.

Rick and Denis Whelan played a D-1 lax game against each other on March 20th, 2004 as UMass faced Brown - Brother vs brother, Dukes lax vs Dukes lax. Rick Whelan, graduated from Episcopal Academy in 2000 and is a senior, playing (#2 [Profile]) for Brown Unversity. Denis Whelan, graduated from Penn Charter in 2003 and is a freshman playing lax (#20 [Profile]) at UMass-Amherst. Being the proud mother of two accomplished sons, Mrs. Whelan shared "It was great to see both Ricky and Denis at the same field, at the same time, but it was hard to know who to root for!". Brown won the game 10-5.
